    The Basics of Restless Leg Syndrome

    Restless leg syndrome (RLS) affects about 12 million people in the U.S. Despite its prevalence, it’s still not well understood. RLS causes symptoms such as burning sensations in the legs or arms; these symptoms can become quite painful in some patients. These sensations create the urge to move and stretch, which leads to temporary relief. However, symptoms do return. Since symptoms most often appear in the evening and at night, patients often experience sleep disturbances and daytime fatigue.
